Hang, tape and finish
Drywall is three jobs: hanging the board, taping the joints, and finishing them with coats of joint compound until the wall reads as one flat surface. We do all three in commercial spaces and in homes. On commercial jobs, drywall follows our metal stud framing and comes before the drop ceiling and any FRP panels. In homes, it’s basements, additions and rooms opened up during a remodel.
We take on commercial interiors two ways: complete build-outs through our design/build process, and trade work under contracting, like drywall, framing, acoustic ceilings and FRP panels. We work directly for building owners and tenants or as a subcontractor for general contractors, and disruptive work can be scheduled around your business hours when needed.
Co-owner Ryan Bolinger runs the day-to-day on every project. We’re registered with the City of Terre Haute as a general contractor (CL003471), bonded and insured, and we send a certificate of insurance on request.

- Drywall (hang, tape and finish)$3–$4/sq ftPer sq ft of board, hung and finished

What drywall costs
Hanging, taping and finishing drywall typically runs $3 to $4 per square foot of board, with materials. Three commercial interiors we finished in late 2025 came in at about $3.05, $3.65 and $4.70 per square foot. Ceilings, double layers, Level 5 finishes and small patch areas cost more per square foot.
That’s per square foot of board, not floor; a 4×8 sheet is 32 square feet. Recent drywall jobs, by scope, town and year:
- Terre Haute, 2025. 52 sheets of 5/8-inch fire-rated board in an administrative office wing, finished to Level 4. About $6,100.
- Brazil, 2025. 16 sheets hung and finished in a small commercial office. About $2,400.
- Terre Haute, 2026. Six healthcare patient rooms rebuilt after moisture damage, with two layers of 5/8-inch board on the exterior walls. About $12 a square foot, because finishing small rooms costs nearly the same per room.
We don’t price by the square foot. Every proposal is built from the actual cost of your job — materials, labor, equipment, permits and overhead. The per-square-foot figures here are simply what our past bids have worked out to. Your proposal is one all-inclusive price with permits and sales tax built in.
Finish levels, 0 to 5
The industry grades drywall finish in levels set out by the Gypsum Association. Your proposal names the level.
| Level | What it means | Where it’s used |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Board hung, no tape | Temporary walls |
| 1 | Tape set in compound at joints and corners | Above ceilings and other hidden areas |
| 2 | One coat over tape and screws | Garages, storage rooms, under tile |
| 3 | A second coat | Under heavy texture or heavy wallcovering |
| 4 | Three coats on joints and screws, sanded smooth | Most painted walls in homes and offices |
| 5 | Level 4 plus a thin skim coat over the whole surface | Glossy paint, dark colors, walls lit from the side |
Level 4 is our standard for walls that will be painted. Level 5 costs more, and it’s worth it where glossy paint or strong side light from windows would show every joint.
Board for the job
- Standard 1/2-inch board. Most walls in homes.
- 5/8-inch fire-rated (Type X). Where the plans or code call for a fire-rated wall or ceiling, like the office wing above.
- Moisture-resistant board. Bathrooms, laundry rooms and other damp spots. It resists moisture but isn’t waterproof, so in tile showers we use the Schluter-Kerdi membrane system instead (see bathroom remodeling).
Fire-rated assemblies. Where the plans or code call for a fire-rated wall or ceiling, we build the assembly the design specifies: the studs, board type and layers, fasteners, joint treatment and sealant at penetrations. A rated assembly only works when every part matches the design, so we don’t substitute.
How we hang and finish
Protect the space. ZipWall dust barriers keep sanding dust in the work area, and we clean up and haul waste every day at our cost.
Hang. Board goes up with screws, joints staggered and kept off the corners of doors and windows, where cracks like to start.
Tape and coat. Tape goes into compound at every joint and inside corner, bead covers the outside corners, then the coats follow. Each coat has to dry before the next, so even one room takes several days from hanging to final sanding.

Repairs, and what’s too small
We don’t take drywall patch jobs on their own. Patching inside a bigger project is different: we close up walls opened during a remodel, and in 2026 we rebuilt a kitchen ceiling in two layers of board, finished to Level 4, after water damage.
Who we’re not a fit for
We’d rather tell you now than waste your time or ours.
- The cheapest bid. If price is your only priority we likely aren't the right choice. You can always find a lower number. We price for specific quality materials, professional project management, plans & permits, proper insurance (liability & workers' comp) and livable wages for our crew.
- Small service calls. We don't take handyman jobs or small general repairs under about 4 hours. Roof repairs are a separate service.
- Standalone trade work. We don't do standalone HVAC, electrical or plumbing unless it's part of a larger design/build project.

For general contractors who need a drywall sub
We can hang and finish your job alone or as one package with framing, ceilings and FRP. Send the drawings, wall types and spec, including the finish level and any rated assemblies, and we’ll price from them. We provide a certificate of insurance, a W-9 and lien waivers with our billing, and bill through your pay-application process. If your job needs submittals or closeout documents, tell us up front and we’ll say plainly what we can provide.

Ceiling, framing, drywall and FRP jobs are typically billed 75% at signing and 25% on completion; as a subcontractor, we bill through the GC’s pay applications. Drywall inside a full remodel follows that project’s schedule. Most projects can start 2 to 6 weeks after you sign, and your proposal lists the dates.

Drywall questions
How much does drywall cost per square foot in Terre Haute?
Hanging, taping and finishing typically runs $3 to $4 per square foot of board with materials. Ceilings, double layers, Level 5 and small areas cost more.
What finish level do I need?
Level 4 for most painted walls. Level 5 adds a skim coat over the whole wall for glossy paint, dark colors or strong side light.
Do you fix holes and cracks in drywall?
Not as a job on its own; repairs under about 4 hours are too small for us. We do patch and refinish drywall as part of a larger project.
Do you hang drywall in homes?
Yes: basements, additions and remodels. Full kitchen and bathroom remodels go through design/build.
Can you be our drywall subcontractor?
Yes. We price from your drawings and spec, provide a certificate of insurance, W-9 and lien waivers, and bill through your pay applications.
