Trim and doors by our own carpenters
Finish carpentry is the trim you see every day: baseboard, door and window casing, crown molding, wall paneling, chair rail, beadboard panels and interior doors. We also replace rotted trim around exterior doors. Most of our trim work rides along with new flooring, a remodel or a new home, and we take trim packages on their own when they’re big enough. A trim repair that takes less than about 4 hours is too small for us.
Jacob Zimmerman, our lead carpenter, picked up carpentry on side jobs in high school and sharpened it in the carpenters’ union. Jonathan, one of our carpenters, has about ten years in the trade and says his best teacher has been his father. Our crew are professionals at high-end finishes, including tile, millwork and trim. Co-owner Ryan Bolinger came up through the carpentry trade and runs the day-to-day on every project.
We work in Terre Haute, Brazil, West Terre Haute, Clay City, Sullivan, Clinton, Linton, Greencastle and the towns around them, plus Marshall, Paris and Casey, Illinois. Our office is at 300 Ohio Street, Suite E, but we don’t take walk-ins, so please call first if you’d like to stop by.

What finish carpentry costs
Finish carpentry is quoted per project. Two trim jobs with the same number of rooms can be far apart: one is colonial base in a few rooms, the other is built-up craftsman casing, crown and a dozen doors. We measure at the site visit and give you one all-inclusive price for your exact scope, with material, labor and sales tax in it.
We don’t price by the square foot. Every proposal is built from the actual cost of your job — materials, labor, equipment, permits and overhead.
Recent trim jobs
- Brazil, 2026. 17 interior doors hung and a new home trimmed out with base and window and door casing, as part of a finish package.
- Clay City, 2025. Entryway wall paneling, chair rail, beadboard cabinet panels and baseboard, as part of a larger remodel.
- Craftsman trim package. 1×6 base, 1×4 casing with crossheads, and crown.
- Terre Haute, 2026. New crown molding in a church entry and two rooms.
- Colonial baseboard. Pine colonial base, material and install.

What moves the price
- How much trim. The number of rooms, the linear feet of base and crown, and how many doors and windows get cased.
- Profile. Simple colonial base goes up faster than built-up craftsman trim with crossheads.
- Crown. Crown sits at an angle between the wall and ceiling, and every corner takes careful cutting, so it takes more time per foot than base.
- Doors. Each interior door hung adds material and labor.
- Paneling. Wall paneling, chair rail and beadboard add layout time and a lot of pieces.
- The house itself. Walls that aren’t flat and corners that aren’t square take more fitting.
Your proposal is one all-inclusive price with sales tax built in. Trim on its own is paid as a 75% deposit and 25% on completion. Trim inside a bigger remodel follows that project’s payment schedule.
Trim styles in plain words
- Colonial. A traditional molding with a curved, stepped profile, used for base and casing.
- Craftsman. Flat boards, like a 1×6 base and 1×4 casing, with a crosshead (a header piece) over doors and windows.
- Crown molding. The trim that covers the joint where the wall meets the ceiling.
- Wall paneling and chair rail. Panels on the wall, often topped with a chair rail at about the height a chair back would hit.
How we do the work
Fit it to the house. Few walls are perfectly flat, and few corners are perfectly square. Finish carpentry is the work of fitting straight trim to a house that isn’t, so joints close tight and casing sits even around every door.
Doors that work. An interior door should swing freely, latch and show even gaps around the edges. We work to the NAHB Residential Construction Performance Guidelines, which set measurable standards for finished work, so “good enough” isn’t a judgment call.
Rotted exterior trim. Rot around an exterior door means water is getting in somewhere, and it’s worth finding out where before new trim goes up.
Clean as we go. ZipWall dust barriers keep sawdust in the work area, and we clean up every day at our cost.
We do finish carpentry in commercial spaces too, from trim and crown in an office to new crown molding in a church entry. It often goes in alongside our drywall and acoustic ceiling work, or as part of a full commercial build-out. For trim that goes with new floors, see flooring.

Who we’re not a fit for
We’d rather tell you now than waste your time or ours.
- The cheapest bid. If price is your only priority we likely aren't the right choice. You can always find a lower number. We price for specific quality materials, professional project management, plans & permits, proper insurance (liability & workers' comp) and livable wages for our crew.
- Small service calls. We don't take handyman jobs or small general repairs under about 4 hours. Roof repairs are a separate service.
- Standalone trade work. We don't do standalone HVAC, electrical or plumbing unless it's part of a larger design/build project.

White Rock Contracting has done several different jobs for us. Derek and his staff are knowledgeable, polite and on time. They have cleaned our gutters, replaced an exterior door and replaced rotting moulding around our doors. They are reasonably priced, come out on time and are very good at communicating about the projects.

Finish carpentry questions
How much does finish carpentry cost in Terre Haute?
Finish carpentry is quoted per project. The amount of trim, the profile, crown, the number of doors and the shape of the house all change the price, so we measure at the site visit and give you one all-inclusive number for your scope.
What’s the smallest trim job you take?
We don’t take repairs that take less than about 4 hours. Trim pairs well with other work, like new flooring, so it often makes sense to do them together.
Do you hang interior doors?
Yes. On one new home in Brazil we hung 17 interior doors and cased the doors and windows throughout.
Can you replace rotted trim around an exterior door?
Yes. We replace the rotted trim, and it’s worth finding where the water is coming from first.
Do you install crown molding?
Yes. One 2026 job in Terre Haute added new crown molding in a church entry and two rooms.
How do payments work?
Trim on its own is a 75% deposit and 25% on completion, by online invoice, check or cash. Financing is available through HFS; see our financing page.
