Floors that start with the subfloor
We install LVP (luxury vinyl plank) and laminate, engineered hardwood and tile. A lot of flooring problems start underneath. A subfloor that isn’t flat telegraphs through LVP, and a subfloor that flexes cracks tile and grout. So before the new floor goes down, we check the subfloor and fix what needs fixing.
Flooring can be a job on its own or one part of a bigger one, like a bathroom remodel. Our crew are professionals at high-end finishes, including tile, millwork and trim, and co-owner Ryan Bolinger runs the day-to-day on every project. We install floors in Terre Haute, Brazil, West Terre Haute, Clay City, Sullivan, Clinton, Linton, Greencastle and the towns around them, and in Marshall, Paris and Casey, Illinois. Our office is at 300 Ohio Street, Suite E. We don’t take walk-ins, so please call first if you’d like to stop by.

What flooring costs with us
The LVP and vinyl floors we’ve installed, material and labor together, have mostly run $11 to $13 per square foot. That’s from four jobs between October 2025 and September 2026, from 170 to 1,134 square feet. Porcelain or ceramic tile floors typically run $16 to $24 per square foot installed, and mid-grade engineered hardwood $12 to $18.
Some jobs land below that range, because a long, open run with few cuts takes less labor per foot.
We don’t price by the square foot. Every proposal is built from the actual cost of your job — materials, labor, equipment, permits and overhead. The per-square-foot figures here are simply what our past bids have worked out to.
Recent flooring jobs
- Casey, Illinois, 2026. 1,134 square feet of LVP upstairs, material and install. About $14,400, or about $12.70 per square foot.
- Terre Haute, 2026. About 175 square feet of LVP in a basement bedroom, next to a new bathroom. About $2,100.
- One bedroom, about 170 square feet. Old floor torn out and hauled off, then loose-lay sheet vinyl and new quarter-round. About $2,150.

We generally don’t install customer-supplied flooring, because we can’t warranty it. Instead, your proposal carries a per-square-foot material allowance: an amount set aside for the flooring itself, so the job can be priced before you’ve picked the exact plank. The Terre Haute basement bedroom above used $4 per square foot. If the floor you pick costs more or less, the difference goes through a change order.
Tile and engineered hardwood
The tile price assumes porcelain or ceramic in a standard layout, with backer board or membrane and grout; large-format tile and diagonal or herringbone layouts cost more. The hardwood price is for mid-grade engineered plank, floating, glued or nailed, with underlayment and transitions. Demolition and subfloor repair are extra on both. Tile showers are part of our bathroom remodels, where we waterproof with the Schluter-Kerdi membrane system.
What moves the price
- Material. LVP, laminate, engineered hardwood and tile are priced differently, and so are the product lines within each.
- Size and layout. Small rooms, closets and halls with lots of cuts take more labor per foot than a long open run.
- Tear-out. Pulling up and hauling off the old floor. Old tile and its mortar take the most work.
- Subfloor repair. Soft spots, rot around a toilet, or high and low areas that need flattening.
- Transitions and trim. Thresholds between rooms, quarter-round or new baseboard. See finish carpentry.
Your proposal is one all-inclusive price with sales tax built in. A new floor on its own is paid as a 75% deposit and 25% on completion. Flooring inside a larger remodel follows that project’s payment schedule.
Choosing a floor
| Floor | Water | What it’s like | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| LVP | Handles spills and damp rooms well | Vinyl planks with a wood or stone look | Kitchens, baths, basements, whole main floors |
| Laminate | Most have a wood-fiber core that doesn’t like standing water | A hard, scratch-resistant surface over that core | Living rooms, bedrooms, halls |
| Engineered hardwood | Like any wood, keep standing water off it | A real hardwood top layer over plywood layers, so it moves less than solid wood | Living areas and bedrooms where you want real wood |
| Tile | The tile shrugs off water; grout needs care | Hard, cool and long-wearing. Needs a stiff, flat subfloor. | Bathrooms, entries, laundry rooms |
How we install a floor
Protect and tear out. We put up ZipWall dust barriers where tear-out would spread dust, pull up the old floor and haul it away. Cleanup happens every day, at our cost.
Check and fix the subfloor. We look for soft spots, rot and high or low areas. Rot around an old toilet is a common find in bathrooms. Anything we find that wasn’t in the scope gets a written change order with its own price, and nothing happens until you approve it.
Install and trim. We follow the flooring maker’s installation instructions, which its warranty generally depends on. Floating floors like LVP and laminate need a small gap at the walls so they can expand and contract, and quarter-round or baseboard covers it. Transitions go in at the doorways.
We work to the NAHB Residential Construction Performance Guidelines, which set measurable standards for things like how far out of level a floor can be.
We don’t take small repairs under about 4 hours, like swapping a few damaged planks.

Flooring questions
How much does LVP flooring cost installed in Terre Haute?
The LVP and vinyl floors we’ve installed mostly ran $11 to $13 per square foot with material and labor. A long, open run with few cuts can come in lower.
Do you install tile floors?
Yes. Our crew are professionals at high-end finishes, including tile, millwork and trim. Porcelain or ceramic tile floors in a standard layout typically run $16 to $24 per square foot installed.
Can you install flooring I bought myself?
We generally don’t install customer-supplied materials, because we can’t warranty them. Instead, your proposal carries a per-square-foot material allowance, and if the floor you pick costs more or less, the difference goes through a change order.
Do I need a permit for new flooring?
Inside Terre Haute, floor coverings in one- and two-family homes are on the city’s list of work that doesn’t need a permit. Other towns have their own rules, and if a permit is needed, we pull it.
How long does a flooring install take?
Usually 1 to 3 days for a room or two once materials arrive. Tile usually adds a day or two for setting and grout.
How do I pay for a new floor?
A 75% deposit and 25% on completion, by online invoice, check or cash. Financing is available through HFS; see our financing page.
