Full bathroom remodels, done by one team
A bathroom is a small room with a lot going on. Drain lines, supply lines, an exhaust fan, wiring near water, a waterproofed shower, tile, glass, a vanity and trim all have to fit in a room you can cross in three steps, and every one of those trades has to show up in the right order.
We take bathrooms down to the studs and subfloor and rebuild them as design/build projects. Our designer partner helps you lay out the room and pick the tile, vanity and fixtures. We pull the permits. Our crew does the demolition, framing, tile and finish carpentry, and we schedule and manage the plumbing and electrical. You get one agreement, one price and one company to call.
Our crew are professionals at high-end finishes, including tile, millwork and trim, and co-owner Ryan Bolinger runs day-to-day execution on every job. We’re registered as a general contractor with the City of Terre Haute (No. CL003471). We’re bonded and carry general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. We remodel bathrooms in Terre Haute, Brazil, West Terre Haute, Clay City, Sullivan, Clinton, Linton and Greencastle, and across the state line in Marshall and Paris, Illinois.

What a bathroom remodel costs
Full-gut bathroom remodels with custom design run $20,000 to $60,000 with us. That’s one all-inclusive price, with permits, materials, labor, daily cleanup and sales tax built in.
That can sound like a lot for a small room. The reason is how many trades are packed into it: plumbing, electrical, framing, waterproofing, tile, glass and finish carpentry, each needing its own time on site. Here’s what moves a bathroom up or down the range:
- Size and layout. A hall bath with the tub staying in the same spot costs less than a primary bath where the shower, toilet and vanity all move.
- Moving plumbing. Relocating a toilet or shower drain means opening the floor and rerouting drain and vent lines. Leaving fixtures where they are saves real money.
- Tub, shower or both. A tub-to-shower conversion, a walk-in tiled shower and a freestanding tub are each a different scope.
- Tile or surround. A fully tiled shower takes more labor than an acrylic or composite surround. Some composite surrounds look like tile for less.
- Glass. A frameless glass enclosure costs more than a framed door or a curtain rod.
- Vanity and counters. A stock vanity costs less than custom cabinetry, and the top can be anything from cultured marble to quartz or granite.
- Comfort upgrades. Heated floors, a quieter exhaust fan, better lighting.
- Hidden damage. Rot around an old toilet flange, a soft subfloor or mold behind old tile. We price what we can see. Anything found at demolition goes on a written change order you approve before we do the work.
The bathroom remodel cost guide walks through each of these in more detail.
Design fee
A bathroom has to be designed before it can be priced properly instead of guessed at. You sign a short design agreement first, and bathroom design with our designer partner is $180 for the first room and $36 for each additional room. Two bathrooms, or a bathroom and a kitchen, means one first room and one additional room.
The parts you won’t see
The tile is what you’ll look at every morning. What makes it last is underneath it.
- Waterproofing. Tile and grout aren’t waterproof by themselves. We waterproof shower walls and floors with the Schluter-Kerdi sheet-membrane system before any tile goes up.
- Ventilation. The exhaust fan gets ducted to the outside, not into the attic, so the moisture leaves the house instead of soaking the roof deck.
- Subfloor. If the floor is soft, it gets fixed before new tile or flooring goes down. Tile laid over a flexing floor cracks.
- Blocking. While the walls are open, it’s easy to add wood blocking for grab bars, a heavy mirror or a wall-hung vanity later.
- Inspections. Rough-in plumbing and electrical get inspected before the walls close up.
Tile or a surround: the honest trade-off
A tiled shower can be any size, shape and pattern you want, with niches and a bench built in. It also takes more labor, costs more and leaves you grout lines to keep clean. An acrylic or composite surround goes in faster, has few seams and wipes down easily, but you’re choosing from the sizes and styles the manufacturer makes. Neither one is the wrong answer. We’ll price both if you’re undecided.

- Walkthrough and punch list — We go over everything with you and write a punch list, then issue a Notice of Substantial Completion. The final 10% is due once the punch list is finished.
- Warranty — Our one-year workmanship warranty starts at substantial completion.
If it’s your only bathroom
Tell us at the onboarding meeting. A full-gut bathroom usually takes 3 to 5 weeks on site once the tile, vanity and fixtures arrive, and we’ll build the schedule with that in mind. Your proposal lists approximate start and completion dates. What stretches a bathroom schedule: special-order tile, vanities and fixtures; frameless shower glass, which can’t be measured until the tile is finished; inspection timing; and anything we find behind the old tile.
Dust, noise and daily cleanup
Tearing out a tiled bathroom is loud and dusty. Before the first tile comes off, a ZipWall barrier goes up in the doorway so the dust stays in the bathroom. Outside, plywood goes down where materials cross your lawn or driveway. At the end of every day the site gets cleaned and the debris hauled off, at our cost.
Every change, however small, gets a written change order with its own price that you approve before the work happens. More on our daily standards is on the how we work page.
Paying for a bathroom remodel
Bathroom remodels use our remodel payment schedule:
- 25% at signing
- 25% on day 1 of construction
- 25% at rough-in (after the rough-in inspection is completed, or when drywall is ready to begin)
- 15% at substantial completion
- 10% after the punch list is finished
Holding the last 10% until the punch list is done keeps the final details from slipping. You can pay online through the invoice link, by check or in cash.
Warranty
The one-year workmanship warranty starts at substantial completion and covers problems that come from our installation. Normal wear and tear, damage by others, weather and defects in the products themselves are excluded. Product defects go to the manufacturer, whose warranty passes through to you. Warranty visits are scheduled within 7 business days, and we build to the NAHB Residential Construction Performance Guidelines.

Who we’re not a fit for
We’d rather tell you now than waste your time or ours.
- The cheapest bid. If price is your only priority we likely aren't the right choice. You can always find a lower number. We price for specific quality materials, professional project management, plans & permits, proper insurance (liability & workers' comp) and livable wages for our crew.
- Small service calls. We don't take handyman jobs or small general repairs under about 4 hours. Roof repairs are a separate service.
- Standalone trade work. We don't do standalone HVAC, electrical or plumbing unless it's part of a larger design/build project.

Bathroom remodeling questions
How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Terre Haute?
Full-gut, custom-designed bathrooms run $20,000 to $60,000 with us, all-inclusive. Moving plumbing, tile and glass choices, and what we find behind the old walls decide where yours lands.
Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes. That means new drain work, a waterproofed shower floor and walls, tile or a surround, and usually glass. If it’s the only tub in the house, think hard before giving it up. A tub is handy for bathing small kids.
Do you charge for bathroom design?
Yes. Bathroom design with our designer partner is $180 for the first room and $36 for each additional room, under a short design agreement you sign before the proposal.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A full-gut bathroom usually takes 3 to 5 weeks on site once the tile, vanity and fixtures arrive. Special-order tile and fixtures, shower glass and inspection timing are what usually set the pace. Your schedule stays current in your JobTread client portal.
How do you waterproof a tiled shower?
With the Schluter-Kerdi sheet-membrane system on the shower walls and floor, installed before any tile goes up. Tile and grout on their own let water through.
Do I have to hire my own plumber?
No. Plumbing and electrical are part of our design/build scope, and we schedule and manage that work. We don’t take standalone plumbing or electrical calls outside a larger project.
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom?
If the work needs one, we pull it and schedule the inspections, including the rough-in inspection before the walls close. The permit cost is already in our price.
How do payments work?
In five parts: 25% at signing, 25% on day 1, 25% at rough-in (after the rough-in inspection is completed, or when drywall is ready to begin), 15% at substantial completion and the last 10% after the punch list. You can pay online, by check or in cash, and financing through HFS is available.
