A repair, when a repair is the right call
Plenty of leaks don’t call for a new roof. When the rest of the roof is sound, a good repair can buy it years.
Our own union roofing crew does the work, led by roofing foreman Timmy Burgess. We repair roofs on homes in Terre Haute, Brazil, West Terre Haute, Clay City, Sullivan, Clinton, Linton, Greencastle and the towns around them. We don’t do roofing in Illinois. If you’d like, we’re happy to connect you with a union roofer in Illinois that we trust.
Every repair starts with a free inspection. We go up on the roof and into the attic, find where the water is actually getting in, and tell you what we’d do about it. For everything else our crew does, start at roofing.

What a roof repair costs
Most roof repairs we do run about $650 to $3,800, and small repairs such as a pipe boot start around $500. The middle repair of the past year came to about $1,000, and the largest, a ventilation fix with a new ridge vent and vented soffit, was about $7,700. Roof inspections are free.
Three real repairs from our records:
| Repair | Town and year | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Roof leak found and sealed | Terre Haute, 2025 | About $600 |
| Old chimney taken out below the roofline, the opening decked and shingled over, and a new B-vent | Terre Haute, 2025 | About $1,800 |
| Two-day repair: shingles on a garage gable, a new pipe boot, and a low-slope porch roof redone in modified bitumen | Terre Haute, 2026 | About $5,900 |
Your proposal is one all-inclusive price, with materials, labor, cleanup, sales tax and any permit built in.
What moves the price
- Finding the leak. Water runs along the decking and rafters before it drips, so the ceiling stain can be feet away from the hole. Tracing it is part of the job.
- Pitch and access. A walkable roof is faster to work on than a steep one, where the crew works tied off in harnesses.
- Damage under the shingles. If water has been getting in for a while, the decking under the leak may be soft and need replacing.
- How much of the roof is involved. A pipe boot is a small, contained repair. Rebuilding a porch roof or fixing attic ventilation touches much more.
Repairs we do
- Leaks. We trace the water back to where it gets in and fix what failed, whether that’s a shingle, a seal, a pipe boot or flashing.
- Wind-lifted and missing shingles. A storm lifts a few shingles, the seal strip lets go, and the next rain finds the gap. Re-securing or replacing them usually stops it.
- Pipe boots. The rubber collar around a plumbing vent cracks in the sun over the years and lets water run down the pipe. A new boot fixes it.
- Ridge and hip caps. The cap shingles along the peaks take the most wind, and we replace cracked or missing ones.
- Flashing. The metal where the roof meets a chimney or a wall is a common leak point once its seal fails.
- Old chimneys. A chimney you no longer use can come down below the roofline. We deck over the opening and shingle it in, and that leak point is gone for good.
- Ventilation. An attic needs air coming in low at the soffits and going out high at the ridge. On one house we removed a power vent, patched the opening, and added a ridge vent and vented aluminum soffit.
- Porch and low-slope roofs. The Indiana Residential Code requires a slope of at least 2:12 for asphalt shingles, so a very flat porch roof needs a different material. On one porch, we replaced the old roll roofing with SBS modified bitumen.
- Storm damage. If hail or wind did it, see storm damage and insurance claims.

Repair or replace?
We’d rather fix a roof that has years left than sell you one you don’t need.
A repair usually makes sense when:
- The damage is in one place, like a pipe boot, a chimney or a few shingles a storm lifted.
- The rest of the shingles still lie flat and hold their granules.
- The decking under the leak is still solid, or only a sheet or two needs replacing.
A new roof usually makes more sense when:
- The roof is near the end of its rated life.
- Shingles are cracking, curling or lifting across the whole roof, not in one spot.
- You’re paying for repairs on the same roof every year.
The free inspection tells you which side of that line your roof is on. If it’s time for a new one, see roof replacement and our roof replacement cost guide.
How a roof repair runs
- Call or request an estimate — Doug Stoliby, our sales manager, reaches out within 1 business day to set up the free inspection.
- Inspection — We go on the roof and into the attic, looking for stains, soft decking and the source of the leak.
- Budget and scope — Within 5 business days you get a budget and a written scope of the repair.
- Proposal — One all-inclusive price, e-signed in JobTread and good for 7 days.
- Repair — We lay plywood where materials and equipment sit, take out the damaged materials, replace any soft decking and install the new materials to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Cleanup and walkthrough — We haul off the debris, run magnetic sweeps for stray nails and walk the repair with you. A Notice of Substantial Completion starts your warranty.
If we open the roof and find damage we couldn’t see from the attic, it goes on a written change order with its own price, and nothing extra happens until you approve it.
Most repairs take a few hours to a day on site, and larger ones can take two. A repair can usually start 2 to 6 weeks after you sign, and later in peak season and after big storms. Your proposal lists approximate start and completion dates.

Permits
Roofing work isn’t on Terre Haute’s list of permit-exempt jobs, and Brazil requires a building permit for any project over $500, repairs included. If your repair needs a permit, we pull it and the fee is in our price. For your own project, check with the city or county building department.
Small jobs and our minimum
We don’t take handyman calls or small general repairs under about 4 hours of work. Roof repairs are a separate service, and that minimum doesn’t apply to them: they typically start around $500, for something like a new pipe boot.
Who we’re not a fit for
We’d rather tell you now than waste your time or ours.
- The cheapest bid. If price is your only priority we likely aren't the right choice. You can always find a lower number. We price for specific quality materials, professional project management, plans & permits, proper insurance (liability & workers' comp) and livable wages for our crew.
- Small service calls. We don't take handyman jobs or small general repairs under about 4 hours. Roof repairs are a separate service.
- Standalone trade work. We don't do standalone HVAC, electrical or plumbing unless it's part of a larger design/build project.
Not sure where your project lands? Call us at (812) 605-2560 and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Paying for a repair, and our warranty
Roof repairs are typically billed 75% at signing and 25% on completion. The deposit covers the materials we order for your roof. You can pay online through the invoice link, by check or in cash.
Our one-year workmanship warranty starts at substantial completion and covers the work we did. It doesn’t cover the rest of an aging roof, normal wear and tear, damage by others, or new storm damage. Warranty visits are scheduled within 7 business days, and manufacturer warranties on the materials we install pass through to you.
Contacted White Rock Construction about checking our roof for possible leaks. He came out the same day and checked it out. After sealing some holes he told us it was probably wind that blew up some shingles allowing the rain to come in. Friendly and honest service.
Great experience. They were professional and attentive. They were able to get to us very timely and did a great job. The entire process went smooth! I would recommend them for any construction needs.
Epic crew and responsive. Highly recommend!

Roof repair questions
How much does roof repair cost in Terre Haute?
Most roof repairs we do run about $650 to $3,800, and small repairs such as a pipe boot start around $500. Roof inspections are free.
Can you fix a leak without replacing the whole roof?
Often, yes. If the rest of the roof is sound, we fix the spot that failed. If the roof is near the end of its life, we’ll tell you a repair won’t buy much time.
Will my homeowners insurance pay for a roof repair?
If a storm caused the damage, it may. That’s up to your policy and your insurance company. We document the damage and meet the adjuster on site, and we never waive deductibles. See storm damage and insurance claims.
Can you match my shingles?
We get as close as we can. Older colors and lines get discontinued, so if the patch will show, we’ll tell you before we start.
Do you repair roofs in Illinois?
No. We don’t hold an Illinois roofing license, so we only do roofing in Indiana. If you’d like, we’re happy to connect you with a union roofer in Illinois that we trust.
